FAQs
Need some design ideas?
We encourage new advertisers to take a look at Pathways Magazine, a Washington, D.C., area publication that we modeled Threshold on. Click on this link to view a pdf version of a Pathways issue where you can find a few dozen examples of full page, half-page and smaller ads placed by merchants and healers working in a variety of modalities. Like Pathways, we can accommodate any size ad you are interested in.
What type of image file do you need from me?
If you’ll be designing the ad yourself, you can email an image (using any common file type) to [email protected].
How should I format the ad?
The image can be any dimension. Just be sure that the image resolution is high (at least 300dpi). Even our smallest ad will print at 4.5 inches wide!
What shape should the ad be?
You can submit any shape ad you want–circle, star, etc. and we’ll make it work! We’re flexible because we have full control over the magazine’s layout. The ad width will determine how big your ad prints. Here are the size allowances for each ad:
+ Full page ads: 9.5″ x 14″
+ Half page ads: 9.5″ X 6.5″ (can be horizontal or vertical in orientation)
+ Quarter page ads: 6.5″ x 4.5″ wide (can be horizontal or vertical in orientation)
+ Sixth page ads: 4.5″ square
These are just helpful guidelines. You can send us any size image you want (the bigger, the better) and we will get it formatted to the right size for publication.
What else should I know about designing an ad?
We are extremely flexible and will accept just about any size and shape of image you want to submit as long as it is high resolution.
When are ads due?
All ad submissions are due by Feb 23 for the Spring issue.
What if I need you to design my ad?
No problem! We add $40 for design services and will send proofs to you with plenty of time to review. Contact us by Feb 16 if you need design support.
How do I submit events?
Please note all ads come with a website directory listing and 5 event listings that can be submitted using forms at this link. Additional event listings are $5 each. If you don’t have 5 events coming up in the mid-March through mid-June timeframe to print in the Spring issue, you can “donate” some or all of them to a cause or business you support to help them promote their upcoming events.
How does billing work?
After your ad is finalized, we will email you an invoice that you can pay online via credit card, Venmo, CashApp, PayPal—whatever works for you. We are running a 15% off promotion for the Spring issue, and that discount will be applied to your invoice.
Did you know?
We offer small (sixth-page) ads free of charge for writer-contributors. If you are a practitioner and would like to share your experience, insights, crazy stories, and/or advice with readers, please let us know and we can discuss ideas for articles. Article space is limited, so we try to finalize issue content a month or more before publication. We are currently accepting pitches for our Summer 2024 issue to be distributed in early June.
