Living Ritual. Where art meets the body. We are continually redefining ourselves and our daily practices of being in this world, in these physical bodies. Practices of self care and adornment are perhaps as old as human culture. They are a thread to our past, present, and future.

Records of massage therapy techniques have been found in texts from India dating back to 3,000 B.C.E. in connection to Ayurvedic practices, in China dating to 2,700 B.CE., and in ancient Greece dating to 500 B.C.E where Hippocrates prescribed massage treatments as a way to promote the healing of injuries.

Two 5,000 year old mummies in Egypt were discovered to have figurative tattoos on their bodies, the infamous Ötzi the Iceman, who lived and died in the Tirolean Ötztal Alps, on the Italian-Austrian border some 5,200 years ago was adorned with tattoos, and archeological evidence of tattooing has been found in North and South America dating back 2000-3000 years ago, placing ancient tattoo practices in different regions around the globe.

Ok that’s a great soundbite of history but what does it mean? Bodywork and body adornment are some of the intrinsic human needs we have developed over time to care for our body, mind, spirit, and community. I am passionate about offering both of these services and walking in both of these worlds. In an age where we are being pulled out of our bodies and into the digital world, I believe these practices of embodiment remain vital to our human experience.

Just some of our needs? Yes! Music, dance, and play, spending time in nature, are just a few of what I also believe to be intrinsic human needs for living (ok. ok, food, water, and air also)….. but we can’t do it all in one place! Put on your favorite song and have a dance break or go out for a walk as soon as you can!
